WaterRower, an American fitness brand, was founded in 1988 in Rhode Island, in the small coastal town of Warren, by John Duke, a Yale graduate and US National Team Rower. Today, the company's Americas headquarters continues to be based in this quintessential New England town.
What makes WaterRower's products unique? Their wooden rowing machine models are handcrafted from a selection of the world's finest sustainable hardwoods. This range of rowing machines, all manufactured in Warren, Rhode Island, can be found in expansive health clubs, luxury hotels, and boutique fitness studios worldwide.
The WaterRower's unique WaterFlywheel design, inspired by the precise physical dynamics of a moving boat, is the key to replicating the physiological benefits and aesthetic pleasure of rowing. Unlike conventional rowing machines, the WaterRower does not apply resistance to the user; instead, the user applies work to the WaterFlywheel, making the user the engine. The amount of work put in determines the speed at which one rows, allowing users of any age, sex, size, or fitness level to participate.
The WaterFlywheel's specially formed paddle cups the moving water, reducing slippage and producing an unrivaled simulation of actual rowing. This water resistance provides a smooth, even load that is kind to the body and relaxing to the mind, with no jerkiness or jarring often associated with mechanical rowers. The "give" in the connection between the user and the moving water also accommodates developing techniques and reduces the risk of injury.
The S4 monitor tracks the speed of the paddle using an infrared detector and a castellated sensor pickup, providing valuable performance feedback. Additionally, the comfortable, contoured seat and mobile wheels enhance the rowing experience and make the machine easy to reposition and store.
Available in five premium hardwood finishes – Ash, Club, Oak, Walnut, and Cherry – the WaterRower Classic in Black Walnut (S4) features a polycarbonate tank, one of the strongest plastics available, and dual rails for stability. WaterRower is a proud supporter of the local Rhode Island community and gives back through its initiatives.
